Bartleby the Scrivener by Herman Melville Herman Melville is known to write some real of the edge pieces which will make the readers move and make them think for quite some time. From the beginning we understand the here Bartleby is the scrivener who is hired by a successful lawyer. The story takes a complicated turn when the lawyers discover that after initial two days of good work Bartleby is not giving the best in his work. The lawyer, like any other employers tries to help him but it goes in vain. He eventually flees the scene only to come back and get the news that Bartleby has been arrested. Feeling pity for him, the lawyer visits the prison only to find Bartleby looking intently on to a wall and later he is found dead near the base of the wall. At some level and at some point, the lawyer feels bad for Bartleby and in general the mankind as a whole (Melville).
